Mysuru: Whole Bengaluru not submerged. Among 8 zones 2 zones were affected by rain, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking to mediapersons at Mandakalli airport on Tuesday September 6 he said “Will the rain hear us speak ? Heavy rains lashed the City this heavy first time since last 8 decades.” The CM defended that there is no need to project that whole Bengaluru has submerged. There are eight zones in City among those only two zones are affected by rain. One zone Bommanahalli is under complete control. He said that 69 lakes in Mahadevpur Zone were overflowing and again due to continuous rain, a large amount of water has flown in to low lying areas. 164 lakes are filled to maximum level, unexpected amount of rain has come. No drains are designed for such rains. Drains were blocked owing to large scale encroachment. Varthur and Bellandur lakes were overflowing due to rains caused problems. BBMP staff are working hard to remove the water which is a challenge work, he added.
CM Bommai said, I have instructed to clear encroachments and I would supervise. However, it is unfortunate that the opposition parties are playing politics on the rain issue as well. This is a time when everyone has to work together on war footing. People in need should be helped. Even so, he criticised the Congressmen saying that doing politics is a petty tendency.
He said the repair work of water supply unit damaged by rain in Halaguru of Mandya District is going on. The water supply of 880 MLD from the unit would be operational from Wednesday September 7 morning. CM assured that drinking water supply to Bengaluru would be normal soon.
