Mysuru: The City Police has aunched Operation Chamundi project to prevent illegal activities in famous Chamundi Hills.

Everyday thousands of devotees visit hills to offer pooja at Chamundeshwari Temple at the hills. Devotees from other states also visit in large numers during festivals. But hooligans have increased their illegal activities on the hills. Many youth use the road for wheeling on bikes, chain snatching and other incidents too are also reported.

Last year an MBA student was allegedly gang-raped  on Chamundi foothills. To prevent all such activities Mysuru City Traffic Police  has deployed two beat vehicles which would be on duty 24×7 on hills. This beat vehicles would check all vehicles during night, keep a watch on young bikers too. The decision of  police has been welcomed by the devotees.

Sarojamma, a devotee from Kuvempu Nagara in the City said, “after 7.00 pm we were afraid to go to the temple as youth on two-wheelers ride rashly. Last month a woman lost gold chain worth Rs. 35,000 as it was stolen by chain snatchers. Last year a couple was assaulted by the miscreants and were robbed off the mobile and purse.”
