Mysuru: Captain Supritha from Vallabhbhai Nagar in Mysore has made history by becoming the first woman soldier selected for duty in the Siachen battlefield. Currently serving in the Indian Air Force, Supreetha has been chosen for the world’s highest battlefield, Siachen.
Supreetha’s achievement is notable, considering her background. She is the daughter of PS Tirumalesh and Nirmala, currently stationed at Talakadu Police Station. Her education includes an LLB degree and an NCC certificate from JSS College in Mysore. After training as a lieutenant, she joined the Indian Air Force in 2021.
Supreetha’s path to Siachen has been challenging. In 2024, she completed rigorous training and served in Anantnag, Jabbalbar, and Leh. Her dedication and performance have now earned her a position in the Siachen region, known for its extreme climate and strategic significance.
The Siachen region, contested between India and Pakistan, has been the site of numerous military operations since India’s “Operation Meghdoot” in 1984. Despite harsh conditions and significant casualties, Supreetha’s selection underscores her resilience and serves as an inspiration for women across the country.
