Nanjangud By-polls: Cong offers loan-cum-subsidy under ‘mysterious’ scheme

Nanajangud: Serpentine queues in front of sub-registrar’s office were witnessed on January 11 where people from Nanjanagud Assembly constituency were busy submitting applications to avail Rs 15000 loans with 33 percent subsidy, which the insiders feel, is a clever ploy by the ruling regime to woo Nanjangud electorate in advance.
Though the Assembly by-election dates are not announced by the state election commission, loan applications are being issued to beneficiaries in the taluk and Devaraj Urs Development Corporation offices for them to avail Rs 15000 loans. The applicants after filling the application have to submit the same in sub-registrar’s office along with an affidavit. It is learnt that some people received applications by mail based on a list prepared by the respective gram panchayaths coming under the Assembly constituency which is likely to witness the by-polls shortly.

The offices which receive the application forms from the applicant do not have any sign boards nor are the applicants aware of the scheme through which loans are being sanctioned. When quizzed, few men standing in queue pointed at a gram panchyath member who promised them of loans. The government staff was seen busy sorting the applications on block basis.

At the other end, former minister and BJP candidate termed the subsidy loan offer as election gimmick and felt that the Congress’ “ploy of wooing the electorate through back door” will not materialise.
