National Deworming Day on August 10

Mysuru: As part of nationwide National Deworming Day, the district health department will be observing the same across the district on August 10. More than 7.05 lakh children across the district will be administered with deworming tablets to reduce worm infection that can stifle physical and intellectual growth.

Dr. S Gopinath, District RCH Officer, said, “National Deworming Day is a nationwide preschool and school based programme that aims to provide all children between the ages of 1 and 19 years with deworming treatment. On this day, Albendazole 400 mg chewable tablet will be administered to children in Anganwadis, government aided and even private schools. The main objective of this initiative is to reduce worm infection in children between the age group of 1 and 19 years”.

More than 23,000 staff members including doctors, nurse, Anganawadi workers will be involved for the successful implementation of the programme. The tablet is given once in six months. Those left out on August 10, will be treated during “Mop Up day” which will be held on August 17.

In the previous programme which was held in the month of February, deworming tablets were given to nearly 6.8 lakh children across the district.
