New DC office to be built at German Printing Press premises

Mysuru: The search for the land to construct the most important Government building, the Dy. Commissioner’s office has finally come to an end, after two years.

Reportedly the search team has zeroed in on a land near Sree Cauvery College in Kuvempunagar. However it is very unlikely of the selection as there is still an operational burial ground and the surrounding is also subjected to water-logging whenever it rains heavily.

Earlier, MUDA had expressed its inability to part with this land for its own reason. However, providence seems to have intervened in favour of the tax-payers of city who have to live and die here unlike those who come here as Government servants for a limited period and go away.

Speaking to a daily, Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha said that the site for the Deputy Commissioner’s office has been finally identified. It is in the premises of the German Printing Press, now defunct, in Siddarthanagar on the main Malai Mahadeshwara Road.

This land is in the possession of the Central Government and about three months back the Central Government had transferred 15 acres out of 21 acres of land to the State Government. The remaining 6 acres is already in the possession of Central Public Works Department with their own buildings, etc. The State Government has in turn given the land for the purpose of constructing new office of the Deputy Commissioner.

According to C. Shikha, DC, an estimate of cost has already been prepared and sent to the Government and it is expected to receive the administrative approval soon. The Public Works Department will, thereafter, call the tender for this work, she said.

If everything went according to plans from here on, Shikha expressed hope that soon the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for the construction of new DC’s office building. Out of this 15 acres, the main building and the annexure will take about 10 acres of land while the remaining 5 acres will be utilized for parking lot and landscaping.
