Mysuru: After overwhelming response for the first open street festival which was held during Dasara on D Devaraj Urs Road, the district administration yet again will be conducting open street festival at the same venue on December 30.

District administration in association with Tourism Department, for the first time conducted the day long Open Street Festival at D Devaraj Urs Road on September 27. The event got a good response from locals and tourists. With music at the background, the tourists, shoppers and locals had walked around enjoying purchasing, window shopping, playing games, eating and drinking from food trucks and coffee counters. Even the downpour had not dampened the event. People, especially the youths, had thronged the area in large numbers from morning to evening. Most of those who were part of the inaugural open food festival had even demanded the district administration for more such open street festivals. Hence keeping that in mind, the district administration in association with tourism department will be coming out with the second open street festival on December 30 at the same venue.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said, “Initially we thought of conducting the fest where no shops or less commercial establishments are set up but due to the short duration of the event, we decided to go ahead with where we successfully conducted our inaugural open street festival. Since planning time was short we decided to stick to Devaraj Urs Road which is broad when compared to other roads and having all bylanes at the centre. For example, for the police and ambulance to move, we have connecting roads. So from that point of view also have we decided to go ahead with this road. On the lines of M G Road in Bengaluru, D Devaraj Urs Road in Mysuru is the most familiar landmark in Mysuru. After this event, for the rest of the open street festivals, we have decided to stick on to a road which has lesser commercial establishments including DC office road stretch till Devaraj Urs road and also Hardinge Circle to Chamaraja Wadiyar circle.”

“During our inaugural open street festival we had not given any advertisement and just two days before we had informed about the event. The entire set up on Devaraj Urs Road was put on previous night even then we found phenomenal response but for the second open street festival which is scheduled on December 30, there is enough time and we can plan accordingly since this is the stand alone event” added Randeep.
