Mysuru: With the post of the Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore lying vacant, the varsity has received over 150 applications for the post, out of which 25 applications are from within the University. What is surprising is the fact that even after the last date for sending in the applications is over the Department of High Education continues to receive applications- Jan 13.
The University of Mysore had forwarded nearly 25 to 30 applications which it had received.
Rajanna, Registrar, UOM said “From University of Mysore itself, we have received more than 25 to 30 applications, which have been forwarded to the department of higher education. The applicants outside the university submit it directly to the department”. The search committee is expected to meet next week and finalize candidates. The post of the VC has been vacant since January 10. Many senior professors including few from University of Mysore are in the race for the post.
The search committee headed by former VTU Vice Chancellor HP Khincha, Governor Nominee M Muniyamma , UOM Syndicate nominee Hari Gautham and University Grants Commission nominee Chauhan will be finalizing the candidate in 15 days’ time.
Many believe that the next Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore will have tough task. His or her administrative skills and knowledge towards higher education will be put to test during their tenure. The NAAC team will be visiting University next year or by the end of this year. It was in 2013 that the NAAC team visited UOM and executive committee of the NAAC on the recommendation of the duly appointed peer team declared the UOM as accredited with CGPA 3.47 on four point scale at A (Very good) grade valid till January 4, 2018. An institution CGPA on four point scale in the range of 3.01 to 4 denote A grade which indicates very good, 2.01 to 3.00 denotes B grade which means good while from 1.51 to 2.00 denotes C grade which means satisfactory.
