Madikeri: As many as four bank accounts of the City Municipal Council has been seized by the Provident Fund authorities towards non payment of Employees’ PF since 2011 and hence a sum of Rs 97 lakh has been credited to the Provident Fund.
With this incident, the Madikeri CMC has resolved to put the entire blame of the same on the Municipal Commissioner and the Accounts officer.
The meeting presided over by Council President Shrimathi Bangera held Municipal Commissioner B B Pushpavathi for the same.
During the general body meeting, the issue was raised by SDPI Member Ameen Mohsin, who questioned the President as to why such a big incident was hidden from the members.
He said that the Municipal Commissioner has gone ahead to get a stay order on the seizure, but none of the developments were brought to the notice of the CMC members.
He cautioned that now the sword of Rs 35 lac payable as interest towards the PF amount hangs over the CMC’s head.
Meanwhile ruling party member K M Ganesh and BJP member K S Ramesh said that to make up for the seized Rs 97 lakh, the Municipal Commissioner had issued notice to contractors.
However, clarifying her stand Pushpavati said that though the accounts were seized suo moto, legal advise was sought and then the Council decided to move to court. She also said that she had not issued any notice to contractors.
Police entry into CMC
Right at the begining of the CMC meeting, two police personnel were seen videographing the house in mufti, which was opposed by the members. Later, when the incident created furor, the police personnel were asked to leave the meeting hall.
