KIA, situated near Devanahalli, recorded an impressive 3.75 crore passengers last year. Despite the recent addition of Terminal 2, passenger numbers continue to rise, prompting discussions about the necessity of Terminal 3 to alleviate congestion.

To address this growing pressure, Infrastructure Development Minister MB Patil recently convened a meeting to initiate preparations for a new airport. Officials have been instructed to identify suitable locations and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The Airport Authority of India has commenced scouting potential sites in the Bangalore countryside and Ramnagar district, adhering to the 150-kilometre radius regulation for airport proximity.

Minister Patil emphasized the importance of timely planning and preparation to ensure smooth implementation. This decision follows Tamil Nadu’s announcement of an international airport in Hosur, underscoring the strategic importance of regional connectivity amidst growing air traffic demands.

The new airport aims to enhance Karnataka’s infrastructure, catering to the surging air traffic and improving connectivity, thereby supporting the region’s economic growth and development.
