Mysuru: During the meeting at Deputy Commissioner’s office here, the hotel owners’ association members exposed some policemen booking rooms during Dasara time and not paying for them.

Every year during Dasara season, through the police inspectors concerned, police department books two or three rooms but they are not paid, members of hotel owners’ complained on August 31. Last year, police department had booked more than 300 rooms but they have not paid a single pie, alleged President of the association Narayana Gowda.

Soon after the meeting headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Yogesh began, members of the hotel owners’ association wanted him to clarify regarding who should get the rooms citing that they had already received letters from the police department for booking two to three rooms. To this ADC Yogesh clarified for those rooms booked by the district administration payment would be made. He also asserted that he had not sent any letters to the hotels for booking of rooms.

Narayana Gowda said, “Last year, the the police inspectors of different jurisdictions had booked the rooms for their staff members on Dasara duty. More than 300 rooms had been booked for over 10 days but payments were not made. We are not having any problem with the district administration since it pays. Last year during Dasara, the district administration had booked more than 600 rooms and paid most of the money but due to lack of release of funds (Rs 5 crore) from the state government another Rs 2 Lakh to Rs 3 Lakh payments are pending.”

When this was brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner D Randeep, he reiterated that the district administration was not responsible for the accommodations booked by anybody else. “If the police want accommodation, let them write to us. If their request is genuine, we will try to provide them rooms. I will also speak to the police commissioner in this regard”, added Randeep.
