Mysuru: The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President B S Yeddyurappa made a serious allegation by equating city police stations to the ruling Congress party offices.
Interacting with the media at a private hotel, BSY accused of police excesses in one party activist’s case. Accusing Nazarbad Police Inspector L Ninga of being directly responsible for assaulting a BJP activist, BSY sought his immediate suspension.
When BJP Youth Morcha City President K Gokul Govardhan went to lodge a complaint at Nazarbad police station in the city, he was assaulted instead, by inspector L Ninga, BSY alleged. Refusing to accept his complaint, the station inspector kept the party activist in solitary confinement and thrashed him badly throughout the night, BSY claimed. “The police inspector even switched off the lights to cover his act and even went to the extent of threatening to kill the activist through an ‘encounter.’ Only after more than 300 party activists protested against the assault, the activist was set free,” he said.
Since the entire incident is recorded on television, it will be brought to the notice of police top brass and discussed in detail during Amit Shah’s visit to the city on January 25, he said. Even the home ministry will be kept informed as the action of the inspector is detrimental to democracy, BSY said.
