Pomp, gaiety and rituals to mark ‘Royal Wedding’

Mysuru: The world famous Amba Vilas palace is getting decked up and wears a festive look to greet the Young King Yaduveer and his fiancée Trishika as the Royal wedding is scheduled to take place on the 27th of this month, almost after a gap of 40 years. It’s abuzz with people and activities too!

Programme highlights for the wedding period

During the first two days, the rituals associated with the wedding will begin in the morning under a pandal (Chappara), specially erected as per the royal tradition. The royal bride groom will be given oil and turmeric bath and then burnt offerings and prayers will be offered at the temple of Kodi Someshwar. The idol adored by the royal family will be washed using the water from the well brought in decorated pots (Kalashas) and the other religious rituals will be conducted in the pandal.

The washing of the feet of palace priest Parakala Swamiji will then take place. Meal consisting of sweets will be provided to all the guests at the end of the day’s rituals.

On June 26, the religious ceremony will begin by collecting sacred water (Theertha) from the town and the temple of family goddess Chamundeshwari and then from places starting from Melukote, Uttanhalli, Srirangapatna, Nanjangud, Shringeri and Mahadeshwara Betta and from temples within the palace premises. The royal bridegroom will receive the water and will prepare on his own for the next day’s ceremony.

On June 27 will be the main wedding ceremony (Muhurtham) which will take place between 9.05 and 9.35 AM which is considered as auspicious period in the wedding hall of the palace premises. The king will tie the knot (Mangal Sutra) to Trishika Kumari Singh during this period. The king will tie an additional necklace in the evening ceremony on the wedding day where the newly married royal couple will be made to sit on a palatial swing. This is a tradition which is a part of wodeyar lineage and is considered very special over several decades.

On June 28 will the reception within the Durbar hall of the palace for VVIP’s and the royal family members and friends.

On June 29, the public can have glimpse of the scion as he goes around the large palace premises in an open car.

On July 2, a special reception will take place for people in Bengaluru and other special invitees who will not be able to attend the main wedding ceremony in Mysuru.

The wedding attire (Angaraka) which is a long coat will be designed by Royal Mother Pramoda Devi who is a fashion designer herself. Yaduveer has already expressed his happiness over the design and is likely to wear the one designed by her on the wedding day too!

Royal delicacies during the period

The wedding menu will be south Indian vegetarian, consisting of two types of Payasam (sweet), 2 vegetable dry items (Palya), Rasam and Sambar along with other food items according to royal tradition. The food will be served under water proof Rajasthani made enclosure.

It will be a real spectacle for people in attendance to witness each moment of the wedding proceedings and will remain in their memory for years to come.
