Mysuru: The pachyderm herd was accorded a traditional welcome at the Jaimarthanda entrance by the district administration on August 26 evening though the district in-charge minister was conspicuous by his absence on the occasion.

The 45-day long royal treatment began with the traditional band (Mangala vaadya) playing in the presence of married women carrying Kalashas (Poornakumbh). Traditional dance performances like Dollukunitha, Veeragase were held where the police band played their tunes to enthrall the gathering.

Addressing the gathering, State cooperation minister Mahadeva prasad said elaborate arrangements are being made to make this year’s dasara festival a successful one.

Deputy Commissioner Randeep echoing the same view said that the Dasara sub committees, presidents and vice presidents will discuss with the main committee to ensure an orderly festival and asserted that media will be fed with quick updates on the events.

HC Mahadevappa becomes the first district in-charge minister to give a miss

In all previous occasions, the district in-charge minister used to be present to accord welcome to the pachyderms, but due to his absence on August 26, HC Mahadevappa became the first minister who was not present during the traditional welcome ceremony of the pachyderm herd at Jaimarthanda entrance.
