Mysuru: The Mysuru district administration officials have started the process to get back Parvati (name changed), a woman from Periyapatna who is stranded in Himachal Pradesh hospital owing to financial paucity.

Parvati was mentally disturbed and had left home. Soon she landed in a hospital in Shimla. After treatment, she spoke about her ordeal to doctors who got in touch with Karnataka government. Though her family members knew about her stay in the hospital, they are not able to get her back due to financial problems.

Following a video message in Kannada, which was circulated on social media, her family members recognized her and later when it was brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner Abhiram Sankar he intervened and assured to try his level best to get back her to Mysuru.

Parvati, from Periyapatna, has been sheltered at Himachal Hospital of Mental Health and Rehabilitation (HHMHR) in Shimla from the past two years and is awaiting help from Karnataka government to get back to her native Mysuru.

According to officials of HHMHR, Parvati was sent to the hospital in Shimla from a medical college hospital at Tanda in 2016. Since then, she is under treatment at the rehabilitation centre.

Speaking to Newskarnataka Dr Sanjay Pathak, Senior Medical Superintendent of HHMHR said, “Two years ago, when Parvati was brought to our hospital she was suffering from mental illness but she is alright now. She is desperately looking forward to joining her family. We have been trying to establish contact with Karnataka administration over the last six months.” He says that language was a major barrier to help Parvati as she could speak only Kannada.

Krishnamurthy, Vice President of Doddabelalu Gram Panchayat who married the younger sister of Parvati said that Parvati got married to a person from Channarayapatna and her husband abandoned her when she failed to have a child even after several years of marriage. “The incident left her dejected. She went off and we could not pay more attention to this case as we were worried about Parvati’s ailing mother who needed care and attention,” he said adding that though family members knew about her whereabouts they decided to get her back after completing the ongoing construction of their house which will take another six months.

“The old house in which they were residing collapsed a few months ago. Due to poverty, all the members of Parvati’s family are residing with us. If they had money they would have constructed the house and brought Parvati early,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Abhiram Sankar said, “I came to know about the incident on Saturday and I will try my level best to get her back to Mysuru”.
