Mysuru: In a dramatic turn of events, Mallige, a woman once thought to be murdered, has been granted permission by the Fifth Additional District Sessions Judge in Mysuru to return to her native village, Shakthigere in Virajpet taluk. Her request was accepted under the condition that she must attend all future court sessions. She will be accompanied by Ganesha, who is said to be her second husband.

Advocate B S Pandu Poojari, representing Suresh, confirmed the court’s decision. Bailkuppe police have been tasked with collecting Mallige’s current address and contact details to ensure her presence when required by the court.

Mallige’s statement was recorded at the State Home for Women in Mysuru on April 7. Her testimony was submitted as part of the evidence on Wednesday by both prosecution and defense teams.

Suresh, a member of the Jenukuruba tribal community from Basavanahalli near Kushalnagar, had spent two years and four months in Mysuru Central Jail. His wife Mallige was reported missing on October 20, 2020, with the complaint lodged at Kushalnagar police station.

Later, a woman’s skeleton was found by Bettadapura police, who asked Suresh to identify the remains. Mallige’s mother and son confirmed the belongings as hers, and a murder case under IPC Sections 302 and 201 was registered against Suresh in May 2021. He was released on bail in September 2023.

Mallige was located with Ganesha at a hotel in Madikeri on April 1. Since April 3, she had been housed at the State Home. The Mysuru police are now investigating possible errors in the original probe and must submit a report by April 17.
