As the IPL 2025 final nears, Mysuru is abuzz with excitement, especially among Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans gearing up for a potential first title win. Leading the celebrations is Basavaraj Basappa, a devoted RCB supporter, who vowed to sponsor free holige meals — a sweet flatbread dear to Karnataka — at all 16 Indira Canteens in Mysuru if RCB clinches the trophy.

On Monday, Basappa distributed free holige meals at Gun House Circle, setting a joyful tone. Inspired, local fans urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to expand the celebration statewide in the event of an RCB victory.

Adding a spiritual touch, Chamaraja MLA Harishgowda, a passionate fan, held a Vijaya Durga Homa at Amrutheshwara Temple on Dewans Road, seeking divine blessings for the team’s success.

“RCB has always had the support. This time, we’re hopeful it translates into victory,” Harishgowda said, joining fans who have even decorated their cars with RCB stickers.

However, the enthusiasm drew criticism from BJP MLC C.T. Ravi, who questioned the fan frenzy. “How many Kannadigas are even in the RCB squad?” he asked, adding that IPL is driven by money, unlike the commitment of soldiers guarding the nation.

He urged citizens to focus on real priorities, suggesting that the cricket obsession overshadows pressing local issues.
