Mysuru: During the daylong trade license renewal drive organised by the Hotel Owners Association jointly with the Mysuru City Corporation, it was record collection made by corporation authorities. They managed to collect Rs 20,80,596 with the renewal of 363 licenses at Hotel Owners Association premise in Krishnamurthypuram here on Tuesday.

The trade license renewal mela for hoteliers was conducted with an intention to ease the process. Earlier, the hoteliers including bakeries and sweet stalls owners used to go to corporation to get their license renewed and the process was cumbersome due to various formalities which were not people friendly. But the new process enables the hoteliers to get their trade licenses renewed under one roof instead of running around to different departments. Here the officials belonging from all the nine zones which come under Mysuru City Corporation are called and within few minutes the licenses are renewed. This is the third such mela conducted by Hotel Owners Association. Earlier it was organised last year and in 2012.

Narayanagowda, President, Hotel Owners Association said, “The system is helping the hoteliers to get their license renewed very easily. Last year during similar trade license renewal mela, we collected Rs 14.75 Lakh after renewing nearly 300 licenses. This year it was an overwhelming response as we managed to renew 363 licenses with a record collection of Rs 20,80,596. The highest trade license renewal was from Zone No 6-204 licenses with a total collection of Rs 12,85,118while in Zone No 8 it was a poor response. Just one license was renewed!”

“The renewal fee starts from a minimum of Rs 600 and depends upon the size of their hotel or firm. Those who fail to get their trade licenses renewed on or before February 28, will need to pay fine. After February 28 and till March 31, they need to pay additional 25 percent of their total license fee. If they delay further that is from April onwards, the fine will be even more. Twenty days prior to the event, we had intimated all our members and even officials about the proposed mela.” Earlier the event was inaugurated by Corporation Commissioner Jagadeesh.
