Mysuru: The emergence of quality private schools has improved the quality of education in government schools as well, said C G Mohammad Mujirulla, Member Secretary of District Legal Service Authority. He also mentioned that during last year (2015-16), when he sought details from DDPI about how many schools were following the rules which say that all the schools should display the fees and other details at prominent places in their premises, it had come to light that 129 schools in the taluk had violated them.

Speaking after inaugurating legal awareness programme on fee structure in unaided schools and RTE Act organised by the District Legal Services Authority in association with the District Administration at CKC convent here on Thursday, he said, “The responsibility of Department of Public Instruction also includes seeing whether schools are following the rules and regulations and if schools are not following the same the former has the authority to take action. But it came to light that no action had been taken by the DDPI against majority of the schools who had violated rules and regulations by not putting the detailed information at prominent places. Atleast now the school authorities should be law abiding citizens and follow the rules and regulation.”

“There is a lot of contribution from private schools to the society. If I am here today, it is because of a private school where I got education. The government schools started changing only after private schools got more students by adopting latest methods. Along with regular education, moral education is equally important. The schools should start giving more emphasis on moral education.”

Schools should also accept monthly fee:
“If the parents can’t afford to pay the fees in three or four instalments, they can also split the fees and pay the same every month. The school authorities should make such arrangements and make parents feel comfortable. If the school authorities fail to provide such facilities, they are violating the rules and inviting trouble. Schools should set an ideal for the society by following rules and regulations earnestly”, added Mohammad Mujirulla.

During this academic year (2016-17), across the district through RTE, 3176 students got admitted in 421 schools; 2367 students for LKG and 809 students for first standard.

As part of the programme, Lingaraj Urs briefed about how RTE works and what are the do’s and don’ts and what sort of punishment which also includes cancellation of registration that schools can face if they fail to provide seats through RTE. Swamy briefed about the fee structures which should be followed in unaided schools. D Randeep, Deputy Commissioner; Basappa, DDPI; P Shivashankar, CEO, ZP and Nagaraj from DDPI office were also present on the occasion. Across Mysuru district there are 551 unaided schools among which more than 300 are in Mysuru city itself.
