SDMIMD’s Sports Management students secure 100% placement

Mysuru: The students who had undertaken the one-year Post-Graduation Program in Sports Management (PGPSM) offered by the Centre for Sports & Management Studies (CS&MS) at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore have secured 100 percent placement in this academic year (2018-19). As many as 10 students from the batch have received career-oriented offers from leading sporting bodies and organisations.

H Gayathri, Programme Director and Deputy Director, SDMIMD, said, “The scope of this course is varied and opens a wide variety of career options right from managing grass root sports, sports retailing, sports media, event management, sports operations, sports marketing, sports tourism, adventure sports, sports nutrition, sports training to sports facility management. The course gives the students an opportunity to understand the business of sports. Gone are those days, when career was only limited to engineering or medicine. With sports sector growing rapidly and expected to boom in the next couple of years, the trend is slowly making a shift towards having a specialised education in sports management and pursuing a career that is driven by passion towards sports.”

Somdev Devavarman, International Tennis Player and the brand ambassador of Sports Management Course also delivered a talk on sports management and job opportunities. 

“The PGPSM programme focuses on practical training and gives ample exposure to the aspirants with skilled personalities from the sporting sector mentoring and preparing the students. Getting these coveted jobs requires technical knowledge, analytical mind, management skills, good communication skill and a sharp business mind. Through this programme and the internship, the students are prepared and nurtured to take their first big step into the huge sporting industry”, added Gayathri.

The students got internships and placements during the course of the academic year in various sporting organisations like JSW’s Inspire Institute of Sports, PUMA, Tenvic Sports, GoSports Foundation, Bengaluru Football Club, Karnataka Premier League (KPL), Indian Super League(ISL), Prakash Padukone Sports Management, Decathlon, SportsKPI, Avyaya Integrated Brand Solutions Pvt. Ltd and KSCA.

Pratik Budhdeo, who got placed in Puma Bengaluru, said, “As sports industry is on the rise, my motto was to gain additional knowledge about retailing and marketing. Our family has a sports retailing business and before I join the family business, I wanted to gain some experience in the field. I got the theoretical and technical knowledge from the classes and placement in Puma gives me the right exposure to learn about the sports retailing industry.”
