Mysuru: Senior and well-known journalist Krishna Vattam died on Wednesday morning in a private hospital.
Vattam, born in 1933 lived through an India in transformation, which he describes in great technical detail in his blog. He has written about the war with China, and the problems local newspapers faced due to the censorship during the Emergency in his blog. When he retired in 1993, he had spent close to half a decade as the Mysore Correspondent for Deccan Herald.
As a journalist, he was known in the city for his deep compassion for wildlife and wildlife protection. Even his friends remember with reverence his days of environmental activism. They also remember his trusty scooter and his ardent love for coffee. Vattam had received Kannada Rajyotsava award in 1983, and the Karnataka Patrika Award in 1992 along with so many awards for his environmental activism.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Srinivas Prasad District in charge Minister and others visited paid tribute to the senior journalist.
