In a rare and delightful moment, a majestic tiger was spotted leisurely lounging in a lake within the Dammanakatte Range of the Kabini backwaters, situated in Magge EPT under HD Kote taluk of Mysore district.
The tiger was seen unwinding in the calm waters of the first lake in the range, much to the joy of safari-goers. It remained in the lake for nearly two hours, offering a spectacular and extended viewing experience for nature enthusiasts.
This serene scene, set against the backdrop of thick monsoon-fed foliage, was beautifully captured by cameras installed on safari vehicles. Tourists were thrilled to witness the elusive big cat in such a relaxed and undisturbed state — a rare sight in the wild.
Thanks to continuous rainfall in the region, the forest landscape is now bursting with rich greenery, attracting wildlife lovers and photographers alike. The rain-kissed jungle not only enhances the natural beauty but also increases the chances of animal sightings, making it an ideal time for safaris.
The Dammanakatte forest zone, part of the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve, is renowned for its tiger population, but witnessing one so closely and for such a prolonged time in water is a special treat, even for regular visitors.
The sighting has added excitement among forest officials and tourists, reinforcing Kabini’s reputation as a premier wildlife destination in southern India.
