Mysuru: The stage is set for Guinness Book of World Records attempt for the biggest yoga demonstration on a single venue at the sprawling 139.30 acre Mysore Race Course which is at the backdrop of the foothill of the iconic Chamundi Hill and lush green outfield which attracted more than 20,000 Yoga enthusiasts during the full-fledged final rehearsal on June 18. More than 45,000 people are expected to take part in the event which will held on June 21 from 7 am to 7:45 am.

The participants who took part in the rehearsal were delighted and fascinated by the the new venue. During the first rehearsal which was held in front of Mysuru Palace on June 12, nearly 2000 participants took part while on Sunday nearly 20,000 took part in the rehearsal which even surprised the organisers who had expected nearly 10,000 people. For the main event on Wednesday, the organisers are expecting more than 45,000 people. Those who want to take part in the event should compulsorily bring Yoga mats and entry is allowed only after getting the bar-coded tickets. All the participants will be given official Guinness attempt certificates.

It may be recalled that the district administration had earlier fixed the record breaking attempt at Mysuru Palace, Hardinge Circle, D Devaraj Urs Road, Maharaja’s Ground, Oval Ground and surrounding areas but since the Yoga session at different places is not considered a single venue by Guinness record representatives, the venue was shifted to Mysuru Race Course which can easily accommodate more than 72,000 Yoga enthusiasts. Among the 139 acres at race course, for the Yoga event, the district administration is using just 71 acres of course land.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said, “Though more than 63,000 enthusiasts have registered, the conservative calculation tells we will cross 45,000 and we are confident of surpassing Delhi record where during the inaugural International Day of Yoga, 38500 people took part in a single venue. Though it is being conducted by district administration, with time it has become like a national event and everybody wants to be a part of it which we saw even during the chain link Yoga where record number of participants took part. To all the participants we will be giving official Guinness attempt certificates. As precautionary measures, we have arranged for four ambulances which will be kept at four different corners and 10 doctors will be present at the venue.

As part of the record, we have to document the whole process-each steward will be looking into 50 Yogis performance. Takur Desai, General Manager, Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Limited, Mysuru and A C Lakshman, former forest secretary will be the two independent witnesses. Apart from this, counter file of the ticket and videos through drone cameras will be the parts of the documentation process for the record purpose. The officials of Guinness Book of World Records will take 10 to 15 days to process it and once they are convinced they will declare.”

There are seven gates and at each gate, 10 makeshift toilets have been arranged. Drinking water has also been arranged at prominent places. After the event, with the help of few NGOs, corporation will take up cleanliness drive at the venue. On Wednesday, all the seven gates will be opened from 5 am to 6:45 am. Participants should come early and occupy their respective places. The event will start at sharp 7 am and conclude at 7:45 am. District Minister H C Mahadevappa and Union Minister Sadananda Gowda will also attend the International Day of Yoga celebration.
