‘Swach’ Mysuru still gets its civic workers dunked in squalor!

Mysuru: Despite having to its credit the glorious fame of being one of the cleanest cities of India, the Mysuru City Corporation has failed to ensure dignity to its pourakarmikas, who had toiled to get those accolades.

A civic worker was spotted cleaning a manhole in the city without any safety measures at hand on Friday morning. The picture of civic worker Srinivas performing his duty, without even wearing gloves was clicked by a person living in JP Nagar. The incident only holds mirror to the sorry plight of the civic workers who perform such an important yet thankless task.

This is not the first time that such an incident has been reported from Mysuru. Recently, Chamundibetta GP president lost his post after a civic worker was made to clean manhole without any safety gear at Thavarekatte village.

Mysuru City Corporation had won the cleanliness award several times in the past and a large part of the credit should go to the civic workers. Such being the case, it is time the MCC thanked the pourakarmikas by gifting them dignity.
