Mysuru: A drinking water project, at the cost of Rs 12 lakhs, was approved by the district administration at Malkundi village in Najangud taluk which was worst affected by scarcity of water.
The village which comes under Hallare gram panchayath was worst affected by the lack of drinking water in the year 2012-13.
The proposed drinking water project by the district administration can provide water from Gundi Mahadeshwara temple in Yadahalli village which is 3km away from Malkundi village. A sum of Rs 12 lakhs was sanctioned but the contractors have grabbed the money and washed their hands by constructing low quality tanks and pipeline. They have not installed roof over the tank as well, it has been reported.
When asked about the situation, the locals have said that concerned engineer has been assuring everyone that the problem would be sorted out from the past one year. There is not a single hand pump in the village. The villagers are awaiting when they would be getting drinking water and questioning as to when their ordeal will end.
