Mysuru: Responding to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s (AIMPLB) nationwide call, a massive protest took place in Mysuru on Saturday against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025. Held at Eidgah grounds in Tilaknagar, the demonstration drew thousands of protestors—including women, children, and elders—from across the city and nearby districts. Police presence was ramped up to maintain order throughout the rally.

The protest, spearheaded by multiple Muslim organisations, voiced strong opposition to the Union Government’s recent amendment. Participants argued that the new law infringes on constitutional rights and undermines the interests of the Muslim community. They carried signs reading “Save Constitution,” “Protect Waqf Act,” “Struggle for Justice,” and “Save Nation.”

The crowd, waving the national flag and chanting slogans such as “Inquilab Zindabad,” “Hindustan Zindabad,” “Constitution Zindabad,” and “Jai Bheem Zindabad,” condemned what they termed as communal and political motives behind the amendment. Protestors came from areas with significant Muslim populations like Udayagiri, NR Mohalla, Ghousianagar, and several other taluks including Hunsur, Nanjangud, and T Narasipura.

In a symbolic gesture, the event began with a reading of the Preamble of the Indian Constitution and a minute of silence in memory of the 26 victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Prominent religious scholars like Hazrat Moulana Mohammed Usman Sheriff and Moulana Zakaulla were joined by political leaders including MLAs Tanveer Sait and K Harishgowda. Speaking at the event, Janab Akbar Ali said the protest was about safeguarding constitutional values and community trusts.
