Mysuru: In a potentially catastrophic incident, three individuals were arrested for attempting to derail a train near Nanjangud in Mysuru district, Karnataka. The accused, in an inebriated state, reportedly placed a wooden log and steel sleeper on the railway track between Nanjangudu and Kadakola railway stations.
Fortunately, the loco pilot of the Chamarajanagar-Mysuru Express (train number 06275) noticed the obstruction in time and applied the brakes, preventing a disaster. The vigilant loco pilot, identified as Ashwini Kumar, played a crucial role in averting the potential derailment.
Upon receiving information, officials from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) launched an investigation. One of the accused, Somay Marandi (22), was apprehended near the railway track, and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime, revealing the involvement of two accomplices—Bhajanu Murmu (28) and Dasamat Marandi (32), all residents of Odisha and laborers in local paper mills.
The accused admitted to deliberately placing the obstacles on the track for amusement, intending to record a video clip of the train wheels passing over the log. Authorities expressed concern over the potential loss of lives due to the irresponsible act and stressed the need for preventive measures against such dangerous activities near railway tracks.
