Hunsur taluk in Mysuru district witnessed high tension after a tiger was spotted near Hyrige village on Monday, causing panic among local farm workers. In response, the Forest Department initiated a full-scale operation on Tuesday to drive the tiger back into the deeper zones of the forest.

The six-year-old tiger was first seen lurking in a field owned by Thammegowda around 2 PM. Shocked by its sudden presence, terrified labourers fled the scene. The incident was immediately reported to forest authorities.

To tackle the situation, a team of 25 forest personnel, along with trained elephants Bheema and Zoo Abhimanyu from Kodagu, were deployed. The operation, supervised by Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Mohammed Faiyaz and Range Forest Officer Nandakumar, successfully drove the tiger toward the Muthurayanahosahalli range by 7 PM on Monday.

However, as the tiger had only been pushed to the forest fringes, efforts continued the next day to lead it further into the wilderness to prevent its return to human settlements.

DCF Faiyaz mentioned that a tiger had recently been seen near a village under Gurupura panchayat limits. Although a cage was set up then, it failed to capture the animal. Authorities now suspect it may be the same tiger.

The Forest Department remains on high alert to ensure safety and minimize human-wildlife conflict.
