Mysore/Mysuru: A recent incident underscores the potential pitfalls of automated traffic enforcement systems. Deepak Kumar, a Saraswathipuram resident, received an SMS claiming that his bike was caught overspeeding on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway. The message, detailing his bike number, stated that he was speeding near Madanayakanahalli on the night of July 29 at 10:30 pm, and instructed him to pay a Rs. 1,000 fine.
Confused, Deepak Kumar recalled being at home in Mysuru, having dinner at the exact time mentioned in the notice. “How could my bike be on the highway when I was at home?” he questioned.
Seeking resolution, Deepak Kumar tagged Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar on his ‘X’ account. He shared a screenshot of the notice and explained his situation, asking for assistance.
ADGP Alok Kumar quickly responded, sharing a photo of a high-end car caught by the speed camera. He asked Deepak if the vehicle in question was his. Deepak clarified that his vehicle was a bike and the actual overspeeding vehicle was a car.
Alok Kumar revealed that the issue stemmed from the camera misinterpreting the letter ‘M’ on the number plate as ‘H,’ leading to the incorrect notice being sent. He assured Deepak Kumar that the error would be corrected.
Deepak Kumar expressed relief upon receiving this clarification.
