Mysuru: A tusker died of electrocution, after it strayed into an agricultural field in search of food, at Devalapura Hundi village of HD Kote taluk.

The 35-year-old tusker was found dead on the land owned by Lakshamane Gowda and Ravish after it came in contact with live electric wire. The land owners had drawn electricity connection illegally to safeguard their crops from wild elephant attacks, it is learnt.

The forest department staff arrived at the spot to collect more information on the death of the tusker.

Later they filed a complaint in Saraguru police station. This tusker’s death comes close on the heels of six elephant deaths near Chettalli in Kodagu under similar circumstances, to the dismay of animal lovers.
