Unpaid dues force water dept, sanitation workers to go on strike

Mysuru: Owing to the delay in the payment of the salary of employees belonging to the Karnataka State Employees Association – the members have threatened to go on an indefinite strike.

According to a release circulated by the association, Director Mahesh said that regular as well as contract employees of the department in Mysuru district have not received their salaries since the past five months.

“Employees have not got their salary, allowances and even the office maintenance cost. Without salary, the employees are facing difficulty in maintaining their families. Most of them have taken a loan,” he added.

The drinking water and sanitation department was established a year ago under the rural development and panchayat raj department.

There are 31 divisional offices, 178 sub-divisions in the state where about 1,700 employees, including permanent and contract workers. There is one circle office and seven sub-divisional offices in Mysuru district, said Mahesh.
