UoM VC hikes cash prize for winners in All India Inter University Competition

Mysuru: Here is good news for outstanding sportspersons of University of Mysore; University of Mysore Vice Chancellor Hemachandra Kumar has hiked the cash award by Rs 5000 for those who secure gold, silver and bronze medals in the All India Inter University competitions.

Those who secure gold medal will now get Rs 30,000 while those who secure silver and bronze medal will get Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Cash award for South zone inter university will be Gold – Rs 6000, Silver – Rs 4000 and Bronze – Rs 2000

After getting impressed with the University of Mysore sportspersons’ achievements in the recent years including the present academic year, the VC decided to go ahead with the hike plan and gave green signal to P Krishnaiah, Director of Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore.

“I took charge as Vice Chancellor just three to four months ago. I have noticed that the students are doing well in the all India inter-university competition. I have not only instructed Krishnaiah to hike the cash award for those securing medals at All India Inter University but also instructed him to improve sports infrastructural facilities.

We will form an expert committee to see the feasibility for having a synthetic track at our athletic ground. Apart from this, we are also thinking of coming out with more accommodation facilities for our sportspersons who come from different places to take part in the various competitions,” added Hemachandra.

Thippavva Sannakki, cross country and long-distance runner who has won a silver medal and two bronze medals in the All India Inter-University competition and employee of South Western Railway, Mysuru division, welcomed Vice Chancellor’s decision and said, “The hike will further motivate and encourage sportspersons to do better.

Apart from enhancing cash award to these sportspersons, they should come out with some reservation in the job for those who excel at All India Inter University Competition. Hope in days to come university, through its syndicate meeting takes a decision and helps students in this direction.”

P Krishnaiah, Director, Department of the Physical Education University of Mysore said “For the first time we also got approval for a cash award from Vice Chancellor for those who secure medals or first, second and third prize in the South Zone inter-university competition. This encouragement will really motivate our students to do well in days to come”.
