Mysuru/Shimoga: Disability is no hurdle if you have the will to overcome it. A visually impaired 16-year-old student K Abhiram Bhagavat proved this with his exceptional performance in the SSLC examination.
Abhiram, a student of Sri Sharada Devi Andhara Vikasa Kendra, Shivamogga, scored a whopping 99.4 percent marks in the SSLC exam whose results were announced on May 7. He scored a total of 619 out of the maximum 625 marks in the exam.
Interestingly, Abhiram never went for any coaching. Apart from the lessons in the school, Abhiram says that he studied 4 – 5 hours every day. He thanks his teachers for his success.
Another factor that contributed to his success is that he was never pressured by his parents to study. This helped him immensely as he was far less stressed, he adds.
His mother too played a vital role in Abhiram’s success. He did not have access to Braille study material. He says his mother would read the text books to him and he would memorise the lessons.
When NewsKarnataka asked him about his ambitions, Abhiram said, “I want to be an IAS officer and help people by providing good administration.” He says he started dreaming about being an IAS ever since his father told him about the ptofession when he was in second standard.
Proud father of Abhiram, Gopal Krishna Bhagavath said, “I feel proud about my son’s achievement. Judging by his efforts, we hoped that he should score more that 95 percent. But we were surprised to see such good score.”
Apart from studies, Abhiram is also an excellent flutist. He has performed in more than 75 events in the past 2 years. He also has keen interest in playing chess.
