Mysuru: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation authorities are planning to introduce Wi-Fi facilities to its commuters in a phased manner across Karnataka.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, Managing Director of KSRTC, S R Umashankar said, “To keep passengers engaged while they travel in public buses to both rural and urban areas, we have decided to provide Wi-Fi facilities. Commuters can use the data up to 50 MB. If one wants to use more data they have to pay for it online. They will be blocked from browsing porn websites using Wi-Fi, but they are allowed to use social networking websites. A Pune-based company will provide these facilities at Rs 1.5 Crore per year. We had called for tenders to provide Wi-Fi facilities to 18,000 buses in the state which includes KSRTC, NERTC (North East Road Transport Corporation) and NWKRTC (North West Road Transport Corporation).”
In the first phase, 8,500 buses will have Wi-Fi facilities. The authorities are planning to provide Wi-Fi facilities in all buses within three months. Currently, Wi-Fi facilities are available in 24 bus bays in the state.
