Mysuru: Questions are now being raised at the attitude of the food and civil supplies department, which took the liberty of pulling down a compound wall of University of Mysore Athletic Ground during Dasara festival but did not set it right even after seven months of the event. The department held a food festival here and the compound was broken for parking facilities.

Now that the compound has not been rebuilt, the ground has become a safe abode for anti social elements. It is said that, even though University of Mysore authorities reminded the food and civil supplies department, no efforts have been made by the food and civil supplies department to set right the compound. Athletes who practice during evening are put into risk. Earlier, the ground was secure but now due to opening on one side of the ground it gives room for outsiders to enter the ground.

Speaking to newskarnataka.com, P Krishnaiah, Director (in-charge), Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore said “During the time of breaking the compound the authorities assured that once the dasara food festival gets over it will be set right immediately, but even after six months the authorities failed to set it right. Everyday nearly 400 to 500 athletes including stroller come to this ground.”

Manteswamy, Deputy Director, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Mysuru who took charge just 20 days back said that he was not aware of the issue, but will set it right immediately.
