Mysore: When one is reminded of a police station, what comes to one’s mind are guns, lathis and a small cell to house criminals. But in the cultural city, there is a Krishna temple inside the premises of a police station. This is the only police station housing a Krishna temple within its premises, where policemen worship everyday and Krishna Janmashtami is a special occasion for all working here.
Sri Krishna temple is located inside a heritage building built by the then Maharaja of Mysore, which was the once an administrative office of the esrtwhile king. Later it was converted as K R police station, but the temple inside retained. Everyday a priest offers Puja at the temple chanting Upanishad slokas.
On Krishna Janamashtami day policemen worship their fathers and offer Prasadam to the devotees who take part in the worship. The temple has an granite idol of Krishna along with that of a calf milking the cow, synonymous with Gopala (Hindu deity) referring to a person in charge of a herd of cows according to Vaishnava theology.
