CHENNAI: A woman and a man have been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a young woman from Mysuru who had come to Chennai in search of a job. The accused, 32-year-old Satish Kumar from Vellore and 33-year-old Shakhila from Madipakkam, were remanded to judicial custody after being produced in court.
The victim, who had left her parents in Coimbatore, was staying at a friend’s place in Kovilambakkam. She encountered Satish Kumar at a bus stand while preparing to return to Mysuru. Kumar introduced himself and promised to help her find a job, inviting her to stay at his friend’s house in Arumbakkam until she secured employment.
Trusting his offer, the girl accompanied Kumar to the house. Upon arrival, Kumar locked the door and allegedly sexually assaulted her. Shakhila was present during the attack. The girl managed to call the police emergency number, leading to a swift response from the Koyambedu Women Police Station. Inspector and staff raided the house, rescuing the victim and arresting both assailants.
The police have launched a detailed investigation based on the victim’s complaint. This incident highlights the need for increased awareness and safety measures for job-seekers in unfamiliar cities.
