Mysuru: World Environment Day Celebrations were organised by the District administration jointly with District Law Service Authority, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and the Institution of Engineers AT S P Bhat Hall.

Speaking after the inauguration the programme, the 6th Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Vijay Kumar M Pavale said that World Environment Day (WED) is observed on June 5 every year to promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity, the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action. It was on this day in the year 1972 that the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was formed. First celebrated in 1973, World Environment Day, also popularly known as Environment Day, is a means to tackle environmental challenges that include climate change, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, environmental governance, ecosystem management and resource efficiency.

Further he said that it is a bounden duty of all of us to remember Salumarada Thimmakka today. To create a healthy society environment plays a crucial role and we as individuals and a collective entity in the society should conserve   mother earth. When we look back,  the media has played an important role in conservation by frequently publishing articles on environment issues.

Executive Director B P Ravi said , “when we look back at our history, development actions were taken only by  keeping the human beings interest in mind. All the other creatures have been neglected. Now the concern is on conservation. The question that lingers in every mind is that of inter generation equity. Modern humanity has been arrogant to the other creatures. Now the younger generation should take hold of the situation and make a difference and there is no dearth of knowledge, wisdom but the action plan is missing. I appeal to the MUDA authorities to retain Natural tanks and Park by declaring them as environment zones”.

Member Secretary District Law Service Authority Dinesh Hegde, Director ISHRAE P Bharadhwaj, Senior officer Karnataka State Pollution Control Board M Laxman, Environment Officer Karnataka State Pollution Control Board P Niranjan  and others were present.
