Nanjangud: Shock and anger gripped the Government Higher Primary Schools of Doddahomma and Chikkahomma villages in Nanjangud taluk on Saturday after worms were discovered in the hot breakfast served to students. The schools fall under the Varuna assembly constituency, represented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Concerned parents alleged that spoiled rice infested with worms was used in preparing the meal. They claimed the head teacher, Shivaswamy, misled the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) by stating that government-supplied rations had not arrived.

However, the SDMC Chairperson Savita Prabhuswamy and other members discovered that food stocks were stored in the teacher’s personal room. They accused Shivaswamy of diverting rice meant for their school to another location and deliberately using worm-infested supplies for student meals.

Outraged by the discovery, parents confronted the head teacher, demanding his immediate suspension for misleading the authorities and endangering children’s health.

On the day of the incident, no food was prepared for the children, further fuelling community frustration. Allegations of ration misappropriation and negligence have led to growing pressure on the local education department to take disciplinary action.

Vice Chairperson Prakash, along with Gram Panchayat members Sruthi Vasu, Sannakki Gowda, R. Mahadev, and several parents, were present during the protest.

The community has called for strict oversight to ensure that government-provided food supplies reach children safely and without compromise.
