Mysuru: Seems like the Mysuru  Zilla Panchayat members are least interested towards the welfare of the farmers. For the second time, within less than a month, the ZP general meeting has been cancelled owing to lack of quorum.

Of 46 members, only 30 members were present at ZP auditorium to attend the meeting scheduled on Wednesday. A minimum of 37 members were needed. The meeting which was scheduled on June 30 was also cancelled due to lack of quorum.

The ZP chief B Pushpa Amarnath, after waiting for an hour cancelled the meet stating that due to lack of quorum meeting has been cancelled.

It is said that opposition leaders did not attend the meeting alleging they are neglected by ruling leaders. But, ZP chief says “I have maintained good rapport with opposition members, too but I don’t understand why members are not attending the meeting,” said Amarnath.

Then Pushpa Amarnath confirmed that the meeting notices were issued to all members. However, she alleged that opposition members deliberately miss the meeting due to political prestige. “We need every members support to develop the district and address the problems,” she said, adding that if any member has issues let them come for open discussion.

“Issues related to farmers’ suicide and water supply were supposed to be discussed in the meeting. But, without quorum, the ZP cannot do anything,” she said.

ZP vice president L Madappa said that the development activities were only possible with every members support and no members should bring in politics in public development activities. “Today, farmers’ condition in the district I sat its worst and many are committing suicide due to crop loss, unscientific prices and debt ridden. We need to discuss on the issues to tackle them,” he added.

Another member, Nandini Chandrashekar, expressing her anguish said these members are unfit to be public representatives. Nearly, Rs 4 crore allotted for various developmental activities is spilling out of ZP, she added.

Manjula Raj, a member, who was present at the ZP auditorium to attend meeting, had made several attempts over phone to convince members who were not willing to attend the meet but in vain.

However, Pushpa Amarnath assured that the next meeting will be conducted with required quorum as members cannot skip three meetings continuously and added that If any member missed three meetings he/she will be disqualified.
