Koppal: A complex operation to install a temporary gate at the damaged 19th crestgate of the Tungabhadra reservoir commenced on Thursday. Engineers and experts employed cranes to initiate the process of replacing the gate.

Dubbed ‘Operation A’, the operation began on Thursday afternoon and continued until the evening. However, due to discrepancies in the measurements between the new gate and the damaged crestgate, the team decided to halt the operation and resume on Friday as a precautionary measure.

Vijayanagar in-charge Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan visited the site on Thursday to boost the morale of the workers. He expressed his appreciation for their efforts and announced a personal reward of ₹50,000 for each worker involved in the operation.

The successful completion of this operation is crucial to prevent further damage to the reservoir and ensure the safety of downstream communities.
