BENGALURU: The Karnataka Private School College Parent Association Coordination Committee has condemned private schools for observing a ‘black day’ on Independence Day to protest alleged corruption in government education departments. The committee’s statement criticized the move, arguing that it undermines the significance of Independence Day.
The parents’ committee emphasized that schools should honor the day by educating children about the freedom struggle and respecting the sacrifices of freedom fighters. BN Yogananda, president of the committee, expressed disapproval, stating, “Using the day for protest is an insult to our freedom fighters and their efforts.”
The committee has urged the government to issue clear guidelines to schools and to take legal action, including filing complaints of sedition, against institutions that breach these norms.
On August 6, the Karnataka Private School Managements, Teaching, and Non-Teaching Staff Coordination Committee (KPMTCC) announced that school heads and teachers would wear black bands on August 15 to highlight difficulties in running unaided educational institutions and to protest perceived constraints on providing quality education.
