New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged graduating students of IIT Delhi to question ideas accepted without thought and, more importantly, develop the courage to find solutions to the problems they identify.
Addressing the 57th convocation ceremony of IIT Delhi, Modi told the graduating students that their degrees represented more than an academic qualification and carried a responsibility to contribute to the country.
‘Keep questioning, keep learning’
The Prime Minister encouraged students to preserve their curiosity and continue learning throughout their lives.
He said young people should question things that are accepted without thought but should not stop there. They must also have the courage and determination to find solutions, he said.
Referring to India’s growing technological capabilities, Modi highlighted the achievements of young engineers in developing launch vehicles and launching rockets, noting that such accomplishments were once limited to only a few countries.
Degree represents problem-solving ability
Modi told the students that their IIT degree should not be viewed merely through their CGPA or placement package.
Instead, he said, the qualification demonstrates to the world that they possess the ability to solve highly complex problems.
He encouraged graduates to approach major challenges by breaking them down into smaller, manageable problems, drawing a parallel with solving complex laboratory simulations.
Youth key to ‘Viksit Bharat’
The Prime Minister said India’s journey towards becoming self-reliant in economic, technological and industrial sectors would provide a strong foundation for Viksit Bharat.
He also highlighted the rapid pace of technological and geopolitical changes around the world, describing the period as one that presents both significant challenges and new opportunities.
“The one who continuously learns is the one who will win,” Modi told the graduates, urging them to remain alert, adaptable and ready to embrace new opportunities as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
