The Male Mahadeshwara Swamy Temple Development Authority is diligently finalising preparations for the upcoming Diwali festival, set to commence on October 29 at this revered religious site. With millions of devotees expected to gather, the authority is committed to ensuring that all necessary facilities are in place to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for attendees.
The Diwali celebrations will peak with the Rathotsava (chariot festival) on November 2, followed by special pooja ceremonies throughout the auspicious month of Kartika. This period is particularly significant for devotees, as it offers numerous opportunities for worship and cultural festivities.
In anticipation of a large influx of visitors from various districts and neighbouring states, the temple authority has proactively implemented measures to prevent overcrowding during temple visits. Additional queue lines and shaded waiting areas have been established to enhance the comfort of devotees. Furthermore, continuous food arrangements will be available from 7 AM to midnight, including special meals designed for the needs of pilgrims. Information centres have also been set up to assist visitors with any inquiries.
To cater to the anticipated number of visitors, the authority has made arrangements for drinking water facilities at multiple points, extra toilets, and efficient waste disposal systems throughout the temple premises. Additionally, extra counters for distributing prasadam (offerings) will operate around the clock until the festival concludes, ensuring that all devotees can partake in this important ritual.
With the expected increase in traffic due to buses arriving from both KSRTC and Tamil Nadu state transport, designated parking areas have been established to alleviate congestion. Specific zones, including the area in front of Janumale Bhava and the school grounds near Sallur Mutt, have been reserved for four-wheeled vehicles, ensuring smooth access to the temple.
Traditionally, the festival concludes with the Tepotsava (fireworks display) on the night of the Rathotsava. However, this highlight has been absent in recent years due to ongoing development work at the large lake on the hill. As this development nears completion, devotees are hopeful that the Tepotsava will be reinstated this year, adding to the festive atmosphere.
For pilgrims arriving on foot from Koudally, improvements have been made to enhance their journey. Drinking water stations have been strategically placed, and steps and roadside bushes along the pathway from Talabetta have been cleared to ensure easier access. Decorations and lighting along the pedestrian path from Anegadi Dimbu to the hilltop are also being arranged to create a festive ambience.
With an expected increase in the number of devotees this year, all necessary arrangements have been meticulously planned to ensure their comfort and safety. A strong emphasis on security and cleanliness has been prioritised, as noted by A.E. Raghu, Secretary of the Male Mahadeshwara Betta Development Authority. This commitment underscores the authority’s dedication to providing a memorable experience for all who attend.
As the festival approaches, excitement builds among devotees, with anticipation for the celebrations and the chance to participate in the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka.
