Lingasuguru : Heavy rainfall in the Krishna Kollada catchment area has led to the release of excess water from the Narayanpura Reservoir, causing the Sheelahalli Bridge in Lingasuguru taluk to be submerged. The reservoir, with a capacity of 492.252 metres, has collected 491.110 metres of water, resulting in 1.78 lakh cusecs of water being released into the Krishna River.
The flooding has severely impacted villages in the region, including Hanchinala, Yalagundi, Yaragodi, Kaddargaddi, Nadugadde, Karakalagaddi, Madaragaddi, and Vankammanagaddi, which have lost external connectivity. Laborers narrowly escaped by crossing the bridge, while others are struggling with the disruption to their lives.
The floodwaters have also damaged infrastructure, washing away pumpsets and pipes and causing electric poles to lean. A team of officers, led by Tehsildar Shamshalam Nagadadinni, has visited the affected areas and warned villagers of the increasing floodwaters.
Meanwhile, water is being diverted from the Rajapure Barrage in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district to the Krishna and Dudhganga rivers, exacerbating the situation. Multiple bridges in the region, including those in Chikkodi subdivision and Raibag taluk, have been submerged.
With rain continuing to lash Uttara Kannada district, there is a high likelihood of water being released from the Kadra Reservoir, prompting a warning from the Karnataka Power Corporation (KPC) for people in the Kali River basin to move to safer areas.
