A 20-year-old woman, Mahadevi, tragically passed away in Raichur on Wednesday, days after suffering a severe head injury while trying to escape from barking stray dogs. The incident occurred on December 7 when Mahadevi, on her way to a temple in Maddipete, panicked and attempted to flee from the dogs. In her haste, she lost her balance and fell, sustaining a serious head injury. The fall caused significant blood clotting, leaving her unconscious.

Mahadevi was rushed to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where doctors worked to save her life. Despite their best efforts, she remained in a coma for nearly 24 hours before passing away on Wednesday.

According to Market Yard police sub-inspector M Amitha, a complaint has been registered, and investigations are underway to confirm the exact cause of death. Witnesses have confirmed that Mahadevi was not bitten by the stray dogs, but rather, she fell while attempting to escape. An autopsy report from RIMS is still pending and is expected to provide further insights into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Jaipal Reddy, assistant executive engineer of the health division, stated that measures have been taken to control the stray dog population in the area. Since January, anti-birth control (ABC) injections have been administered to 1,920 dogs, with the ongoing process aimed at reducing the stray dog numbers. He also emphasized that there were no signs of the woman being bitten by the dogs, and her death was not directly caused by the animals.
