Guwahati: Second post-mortem of Zubeen Garg carried out

The second post-mortem of legendary singer Zubeen Garg has been completed at the Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH). The procedure was conducted in the presence of doctors from AIIMS, confirmed Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Divya Pate.

The singer’s mortal remains were subsequently brought to the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex before being taken for the final rites.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had confirmed that a post-mortem would be carried out in Guwahati following public demand. “People have requested a post-mortem of Zubeen Garg’s body in Assam as well. While the post-mortem was done in Singapore, people have been demanding another autopsy here in Assam. Union MoS Pabitra Margherita discussed this with Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg,” Sarma told reporters.

Cremation preparations in Kamarkuchi village

Preparations are underway in Kamarkuchi village, Sonapur, where Zubeen Garg’s last rites and cremation are scheduled for Tuesday. The singer will be laid to rest with full state honours on a 10-bigha plot beside the National Highway.

Thousands of fans have already begun gathering at the site to bid a final farewell to the beloved music icon. CM Sarma visited the cremation site on Monday night to inspect the arrangements. “Ahead of the final goodbye to Zubeen, I inspected the cremation site and took stock of the preparations,” he wrote on X.

While preparations continue at the cremation site, thousands of emotional fans gathered at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex to pay their respects to the legendary singer.

Zubeen Garg tragically passed away due to drowning in Singapore. His mortal remains were flown to Delhi before being transported to Guwahati, where both the post-mortem and final rites are being conducted.
