Security Scare as Man Rushes Stage During Event With Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah
In a concerning security incident, an unidentified man rushed towards the stage where Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was present during a public event in Bengaluru on Sunday. The event, which featured several dignitaries alongside the Chief Minister, was briefly disrupted before the man was quickly apprehended by alert police and security personnel.
The motive of the man remains unclear, but the incident raised concerns about security arrangements at high-profile events, especially given the prominent presence of political leaders like Siddaramaiah.
The incident unfolded just a day after a separate controversy rocked the city, centred around the mishandling of Lord Ganesha idols during a protest in Bengaluru’s Nagamangala. On Saturday, images of a Ganesha idol inside a police van went viral, triggering widespread criticism from political and religious groups. The van was being used to transport arrested protesters, which included individuals who had gathered without police permission to protest the handling of a Ganesh Visarjan procession.
Security Concerns and Swift Action
The unidentified man reportedly rushed towards the stage in a sudden, unexpected manner, catching the attention of the crowd. Security personnel stationed nearby immediately intervened, restraining the individual before he could reach the Chief Minister. There was no reported harm to the dignitaries on stage.
Siddaramaiah, known for his calm demeanour, reportedly remained composed during the entire episode. Authorities are currently investigating the incident to understand the man’s intentions, though it appears he acted alone. Additional security measures have been promised for upcoming events to avoid similar incidents.
Context: Recent Controversy Over Ganesh Idol Handling
This security breach comes just a day after a separate controversy involving the Bengaluru police sparked protests across Karnataka. On Saturday, during a protest at Town Hall against an incident in Nagamangala, the police were seen placing a Lord Ganesha idol inside a van typically used to transport arrested individuals. This move angered political groups, including the BJP and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), who criticised the act as disrespectful.
The protest was organised by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Ganesh Utsav Committee following a clash between two communities during a Ganesh Visarjan procession in Nagamangala. The committee, despite being denied permission for the protest, gathered at Town Hall. Police promptly intervened, arresting 40 participants and placing the Ganesha idol inside a van, which led to widespread criticism after the images went viral.

The Chief Minister had not directly commented on the Ganesh idol incident but is likely to face pressure as these controversies continue to surface.
Ongoing Investigations
While the two events are unrelated, they have put the focus back on law enforcement and the way security measures are handled in public spaces across Bengaluru. Police officials have assured that an investigation into both the stage-rushing incident and the Nagamangala protests is underway, with updates expected soon.
This series of incidents has sparked conversations about the need for heightened vigilance, particularly as tensions between communities continue to rise. The controversy around the Ganesh idol, in particular, has fuelled political rhetoric, with various parties using it as a point of criticism against the ruling government.
