100-year-old woman crushed to death as rain wrecks hut wall in Shivamogga
A 100-year-old woman lost her life after a portion of a wall collapsed due to relentless rainfall in Adagadi village, located under the Kumsi Police Station limits in Shivamogga district.
The victim, Siddamma, hailed from Kunkova village in Honnali taluk. She had taken shelter at her relative Hemavathi’s thatched home in Adagadi on Sunday night. The continuous downpour led to the sudden collapse of the wall, tragically resulting in Siddamma being fatally trapped under the debris.
Alongside the fatality, three other family members — Hemavathi’s daughter Pallavi, her husband Parashuram, and their two-year-old child Chethan — sustained minor injuries during the incident. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening, and they were given prompt medical attention.
Officials from the Kumsi Police Station promptly arrived at the scene following the mishap. They carried out a site inspection and have taken note of the structural damage caused by the rain.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of mud-and-thatch homes during the monsoon, especially in rural areas where older and weaker structures often house elderly residents.
