MP B Y Raghavendra announced significant developments for Shivamogga, slated to enhance air connectivity starting August 15. According to his X (formerly Twitter) post on Sunday, flight services to Chennai will commence, marking a pivotal addition to Shivamogga’s air network. SpiceJet is also scheduled to initiate weekly flights connecting Shivamogga to major cities, including Hyderabad.

Addressing operational challenges, Raghavendra mentioned efforts to facilitate aircraft landings during cloudy weather and nighttime by engaging with airport management. A meeting in New Delhi has been planned for Wednesday to expedite these arrangements, aiming for swift resolution.

“This initiative is poised to stimulate growth across various sectors in the Malenadu region, bolstering industry and elevating the standard of living,” Raghavendra emphasized.

Currently known as Kuvempu Airport (RQY), Shivamogga Airport serves four destinations: Bengaluru (Kempegowda International Airport), Hyderabad (Rajiv Gandhi International Airport), Goa (Mopa Airport), and Tirupati. The addition of flights to Chennai and expanded services by SpiceJet signifies a strategic move to enhance regional connectivity and economic vitality.
